  • A compact left tool rail groups tools, with clearer selection icons and the names Outline lasso and Pixel lasso. Before / After and view buttons are now in the status strip. Saved files and presets are unaffected by these name changes.
  • Layers has an Ungroup button. Browse has a calmer folder panel. Masks use plainer wording, and Layer adjustments takes less space.
  • The searchable Settings centre includes Membership: plan, status, masked licence key with copy, Refresh status, Manage plan and Sign out.
  • Supported Looks show photo previews. History shows actual edit times during the current session.
  • Improved Traditional Chinese, Malay and Tamil wording. Fixed a DirectX 12 graphics compilation error.

Neko Photo 0.1.3 Alpha: Browse, a simpler editing panel and sign-in

  • Browse can sort photos by file name, date taken, date modified, rating, file size or file type. Photo dates and day headings make larger folders easier to scan.
  • Press P to pick a photo, X to reject it or U to clear its flag, with auto-advance to the next photo. Use the Picked, Rejected and Unflagged filters to review your choices.
  • The right-hand panel now has five tabs: Layers, Adjust, Styles, History and Photos. Adjust has purpose cards and an Add effect search; Styles brings Looks and LUTs together; History has a timeline; Photos has a filmstrip.
  • A new full-window sign-in screen makes it easier to get started.
  • Colour results are now identical across AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards.

Neko Photo 0.1.2 Alpha: lighting, colour, HDR and photo workflow

  • New ways to light, grade and organise photos, merge exposures and soften backgrounds.
  • New editing tools
  • Lighting adds Point light and Spotlight effects with controls directly on the photo. Adjust the lamp colour, strength, Ambient (EV) and Surface relief (%). Lighting applies to the whole photo.
  • Black & White has eight colour-brightness sliders and Auto mix. Channel Mixer adjusts red, green and blue contributions, with Monochrome and Keep brightness options.
  • Dehaze removes or adds haze; Clarity changes larger details and Texture adjusts fine detail.
  • Lens Blur keeps a Band or an existing Mask sharp while softening the rest of the photo. Choose Round or Bladed highlights, Highlight boost (%) and Matching grain (%). The effect applies to the whole photo; use Band when copying settings or saving a Look.
  • Merge to HDR... combines two to nine different exposures into a new 32-bit photo. Choose photos from Browse or add them in the merge dialog, use EXIF exposure or Manual exposure, and preview before creating. Auto-align handles small horizontal and vertical movement; moving subjects can still appear doubled. Original files are unchanged. Keep 32-bit float when saving to preserve the full brightness range.
  • Photo workflow
  • Create, rename and delete photo versions without changing the source photo. Open, edit, save and export each version separately.
  • Copy edit settings and Paste edit settings… apply selected adjustment groups to photos in Browse, with per-photo results and Undo this paste. Photo-specific edits such as crops, local masks and portrait edits are not copied.
  • Colour grading adds Shadows, Midtones and Highlights colour wheels, plus Blending and Balance. These settings can be copied between photos and saved in Looks.
  • Local adjustments add a Background mask, Graduated mask and Combined mask. Name masks, soften edges with Feather, use Invert, and combine parts with Add, Subtract or Intersect. Show area displays the finished mask.
  • Perspective provides manual correction with Vertical, Horizontal, Rotate (°), Aspect, Scale (%) and position controls. Fill frame crops away empty corners.
  • Soft-proof previews supported RGB output colour profiles without changing the photo or exports. Proof colours, Gamut warning, Preserve shadow detail and Simulate paper and ink help check colour before export. This is not a calibrated print match; CMYK and more complex profiles are not supported.
  • Clipping warnings mark bright and dark areas on the edited preview. They do not alter saved photos or exports.
  • Save export options as presets, duplicate or rename your presets, and optionally use their format and quality in Batch Export.
  • Speed and fixes
  • The app no longer uses CPU while idle; since 0.1.0 it could use about half a CPU core even when nothing was changing.
  • Lighting, Lens Blur, Dehaze, Clarity and Texture show the final image much faster after a slider is released (Lighting and Lens Blur in well under a second; Dehaze, Clarity and Texture in under a second on most photos).
  • Faster Retouch previews, including changes to skin smoothing, and more responsive transform previews.
  • When a tool keeps visible retouch but can no longer keep its earlier sliders editable, a message now explains this. Undo restores the earlier sliders.
  • Clearer controls and keyboard help for the new adjustments, plus Ctrl+click and Shift+click selection hints in Browse.
  • Known limits
  • Some combinations of edits, very large effects and extended-range photos cannot use every new control. The app shows a message rather than silently dropping an unsupported edit. Review the result before export.

Neko Photo 0.1.1 Alpha: startup crash fix and editable Retouch

  • Neko Photo 0.1.1 Alpha fixes a startup crash and improves portrait retouching.
  • Fixed
  • Neko Photo no longer crashes at startup when a licence is already saved on the PC. If 0.1.0 closed straight after launch, please update.
  • Float TIFF export is fixed, and exported images now include an sRGB colour profile so other apps show the same colours.
  • Retouch
  • Retouch is now editable: your settings and the original pixels are saved with the image (sidecar or PSD), so you can change the retouch later instead of stacking it.
  • Show area displays where each portrait control works, and the Protect brush keeps chosen areas untouched. The protection is saved with the image.
  • The live Retouch preview is now sharp at full resolution and matches the applied result.
  • New skin controls: Soften texture, Blemish size, Even skin colour, Remove shine and Lighten dark circles. Smooth skin is stronger while keeping moles, stubble and skin texture.
  • Slim face now works, including faces where only one cheek is clear. If the face edge is not clear (for example hair over the cheek), it is skipped and Neko Photo tells you why.
  • Enlarge eyes is gentle and natural. Brighten eyes protects catchlights and dark skin around the eye. Covered or uncertain eyes are skipped with a visible note.
  • Face detection finds more side-lit and half-shadowed faces.
  • Other
  • Large 16-bit PSD files (tested up to about 900 MB) open at full 16-bit, including folders and adjustment layers.
  • Tidier Develop RAW panel.
  • There is no automatic update from 2.x. If you still use a 2.x release, uninstall it and install the Alpha release manually. Existing 0.1.0 Alpha users can update normally to 0.1.1.

0.1.0 Alpha: faster transforms, photo frames and selection editing

  • Neko Photo 0.1.0 Alpha starts a new Alpha release series. Alpha software is still being tested: keep backups of important photos and projects.
  • Highlights
  • Free Transform: faster previews while moving, resizing and rotating photos, with better handling of whole-picture adjustments and layer blends. Large or complex photos can still take longer to show a detailed preview; check the applied result.
  • Selection transform: use Free Transform on selected pixels, including on layers that have already been moved or resized and in cropped or rotated documents. Tab focuses the transform box; arrow keys move it by one pixel, or ten pixels with Shift.
  • Design Templates: place an open edited photo into a template frame with Place open photo, or use Use current photo when creating a design. Compatible shapes and text can be included. Dropping selected photos from Browse into template frames is more reliable.
  • Copy between documents: duplicate a layer into another open document, or copy and paste a whole layer when no pixel selection is active.
  • Focus Check: faster measurements and quicker close-up review by reusing the preview that was already scanned. Focus Check remains a suggestion; you decide which photos to keep or reject.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts: the window now explains selection versus whole-layer Free Transform, Tab focus and arrow-key nudges, with corrected Browse and copy captions.
  • Smooth skin: better protection for facial contours and detail.
  • Before / After: better preservation of a RAW photo's opening appearance when saving and reopening a PSD, including opening edits that used pixel masks. Damaged opening-history information is less likely to prevent a project from opening.
  • Alpha limitations
  • Preview speed depends on the photo, edits and computer. Large or complex transforms can briefly use a simpler preview or show only the outline. Some combinations of shapes and text cannot yet be placed into a template frame; the app explains when placement is unavailable. Review the applied picture and exported result. These notes do not claim that all editing features have passed human review or that every RAW format is supported.
